The Family

  • Victoria

The driving force and founding member of the business, Victoria came from a background in music education - working both as an instrumental tutor and involved in a number of community projects for local Arts organisations. Alongside this and other musical adventures (her backing vocals appeared on the soundtrack to an extremely minor British film!) gardening and growing has always been a passion, first discovered whilst at university and providing endless joy and fascination ever since. Eventually, the love affair with plants won out over music, and whilst she can sometimes be heard singing to the flowers in the Polytunnel, most of her time is spent in planning, planting, propagating and practising her floristry!

  • Julian

Julian grew up just a few miles away from the meadow, the third child of parents whose lives were intertwined with the land. As a boy he had a fascination with trees, and his habit of collecting seeds and potting them up has resulted in a few beautiful, towering horse chestnuts around the farm where he grew up. Music and travel shaped much of his adult life (Victoria and Julian actually play in a band together, in their spare time!) but the road always lead home to Suffolk and eventually to a family of his own. He now brings a lifetime of practical building, mechanical and farming experience to the business and is surprisingly deft at creating a hand-tied bouquet….

  • Pam

Pam, Victoria’s Mum, remembers first discovering the sheer joy of gardening and growing as a child - given her own small patch in the garden and encouraged by her father. His love of nature was passed on, and has formed a steady backdrop throughout her life - from her first job working alongside the landscaping team at the great Drakelow power station in Burton, through her many years in teaching and eventually into horticultural study at Otley college in Suffolk. Able to turn her hand to most things practical, Pam keeps a careful eye on the patch, watering, feeding, weeding and planting, and can also be found manning the stall at markets during the growing season.

  • Penny Wood

Julian’s sister is a talented and highly experienced teacher, enormously hard-working gardener and all round constant ray of sunshine. Penny brings a bucket-load of energy, enthusiasm and can-do attitude when she comes down from her home in Cambridgeshire to spend a few hours amongst the flowers. Her laughter is truly infectious and somehow she makes everything ok. Penny power!

  • Flinn

Our gentle boy - a careful and calming presence, who loves to be out in nature and whose delicate approach makes him a thorough and precise, seed-sowing and flower-harvesting companion.

  • Lizzie and Clara

Our bright and vivacious girls - bundles of sparkling energy and ideas, always looking for an opportunity to be creative and excellent at dead-heading and seed-collecting.

  • Nellie

Every flower grower needs a canine companion, and Nellie is truly dedicated to her work - nosing in all the planting holes (we call this “detecting the spoil heap” for all you Detectorist fans out there), eating biscuits in the tea break and occasionally rolling in something unpleasant. Good job she’s cute……
